Hello every one,

I have a serouis isssue with one of windows server 2000's hard drive.

I have one windows 2000 server which is having two hrad drive c:\> and d:\>

Earlier both hard drive was set for permisssion to EVERYONE with Full control.
Now i have changed D:\> Drive permisssion to EVERYONE with read,write and delete control only.so even with administrator previlage i am not able to change the d drive permission.

is there any other way i can revert this changes to original setting.
or if i can add Administrator acccount with full control permisssion.

I am in deep trouble.
All my work is stuck due to this problem.
plz I need someone help to figure out this problem.

ok if I understand correctly You have accedentally set a permission which stops your admin account from altering the permissions?

To resolve that just take ownership of the drive and change the settings.

To take ownership of a folder, follow these steps: 1. Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
2. Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Name list, click your user name, or click Administrator if you are logged in as Administrator, or click the Administrators group. If you want to take ownership of the contents of that folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
5. Click OK, and then click Yes when you receive the following message:
You do not have permission to read the contents of directory folder name. Do you want to replace the directory permissions with permissions granting you Full Control?

All permissions will be replaced if you press Yes.
Note folder name is the name of the folder that you want to take ownership of.
6. Click OK, and then reapply the permissions and security settings that you want for the folder and its contents.

Thanks for yr suggestion.

I tried the way you told me to do but it is not working because in owner tab under name when i tried to write the name of admin user but it is grayed out so i cannot write any thing there.

can you plz let me know how to deal with this isssue.

If you are part of the administrators group then you will have the ability to take ownership, i'm not sure of the exact procedure for win 2k or server but the above is from microsoft for XP.

Try this:

Your account should appear in the white box below the greyed out owner field, select your account then tick the "replace owner on subcontainers and objects" tick box. Click apply on the bottom of the window.
