Post Registery

Yeh i kno this might be noobish but what is the point of a registery what does it really do. I know that it keeps cd-keys and stuff but why cant they be kept in file like other settings, or are other setting in the registery too?

It's a digital file cabinet. Anytime your OS needs to gather info on where a program is, wether it's been installed correctly, bla bla bla, it goes there. It's the central nervous system of your PC.
