| Re: Recommended Software for certain tasks What would you recommend for ripping CD's to FLAC? Now that I have a 1.5TB drive, I figure I might as well replace my MP3 collection of various low-quality and varying bitrate files with a collection of quality FLAC files, maybe with MP3 counterparts all converted at a good 192 or higher bitrate (for devices). The quality on the lower bitrate ones is noticeable, and some aren't even that.

| Re: Recommended Software for certain tasks Spark if people dont know what type of drive they have it is futile to put up software for only Seagate. Cause it wont work with WD Drives and if the member doesnt know what type of drive it is it could be more harmful than good.

| Re: Recommended Software for certain tasks Actually "SeaTools for Windows" will run most of its features on any drive. That's why I recommended it. heck, it will work on even non-HDD's!
I just ran it on my SanDisk cruzer.
Looky! Click here for image
The only features that don't work are the "Self Tests" and "SMART" tests... at least on the drives I've tried so far :'(
However for general testing of a drive, the Long and Short Generic tests work great.

| Re: Recommended Software for certain tasks I added long before you posted.
The Self Tests are what are needed for real diagnostics. The Generic Tests can be done by all sorts of software. Which is why my statement is what it is. The SMART and Self Tests are the in depth ones that will tell you real information. The rest of those tests can be done with many other HD Softwares that i have seen.
But i have added SeaTools and the WD one as well as SpinRite.

| Re: Recommended Software for certain tasks CCleaner is McAwesome. I just cleaned up over 1 GB worth of junk and fixed 500 registry errors in under 2 minutes.
Also, WinDirStat is a great graphical analysis of any storage volume |
