Default Reclycing Bin gone Wack!

last week I dumped alot of things in the recylcing bin. Yesterday i did the same. when i open the recylcing bin it appears empty, although 50+ items were put in there. when i press empty it says "do you really want to empty these 45 item?" I press "Yes" and click on empty reclycle bin and the same message appears. I do not know how to fix this. and I am afraid that the files I put in the recylcing bin aren't being deleted and are using space on my harddisk. Why do I think this? Last week I had 2G left. 2 Days ago I had 1.7G. This current moment 987MB. help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Enable "Show hidden files and folders" in "Folder options". Just open up the bin click on options then folder options.
