Default Really messed up my computer!

Hi all,

This will be quite a complicated explaination, so please bear with me.

Basically, my I installed AVG 8.5 on my computer, which then subsequently crashed, and upon Bootup I was faced with the "ntldr file is missing" error. After fixing this in the usual way, (copy from my install cd) I got the Bootmgr is missing. So I fixed this too, and created a new boot sector. I kept getting various important system file errors, and so I lost my patience and reinstalled windows on this new boot sector.

That was my mistake. I later discovered, that a stic of ram was causing the errors, but had already installed windows on the new boot sector, essentially, making all my files and folders invisible/deleted. I ran a disk recovery program so I know they are all still there, but I want to keep the file structure; so my question is:

Can I simply go back into the windows install option on the cd, and delete the new partition with its bootmgr, and then the old one will take over?

What are my other options?

Thanks!

No you can not simply roll back a install. You will only be able to use recovery software to try and recover your files. That is the only option you have.

do you mean you have two partitons with windows on it !!
If you installed windows on the partition that had the old system .. that's mean it's very hard to recover it !
I need more info ..

how many hard disks you have ? where did you install the new system !
where was the old one !

if you have more than one primary partition you can swich the boot between them by marking the primary partition as "active"

Regards

I dont believe he made a partition. If he did it wouldnt make sense to say that he installed Windows to this new sector and that his files were deleted. That only happens if you install to the same drive/partition.

Basically, when I got the error "bootmgr is missing" I created a new boot sector. Thus the table no longer pointed to my windows files or applications, and I couldnt load up anything. I then thought that windows had been deleted as the directory C:\windows didnt exist in the recovery console, so I installed a new copy, thinking it would repair the one that should have been there. Obviously the new boot sector table overwrote the old one and I could not find it even with active partition recovery programs.

Sadly, I think, I will have to start again. At least it was only games that was missing and not my life in picture!

Thanks guys!

Before you go that far lets try some stuff first.

Start>Right click on My computer>Select Manage.

There on the left side click the link for Disk Management. Take a screen shot of that and upload it. Let me see what i am working with and maybe i can save this install.
