Default Random Restarts

Hey

My pc is doing some really weird stuff

Normally about onece a day my computer does an unsafe restart... just black screen then it posts and starts up again and it takes forever and once i'm up again it takes 10-15 min b4 the thing is even stable... The weiredest thing about this is everytime i restart program files become corupt, but on the next restart those programs work again and some new ones become corupt it's really weired....

the problem started about a week ago but i havn't installed anything in like 3 weeks (not even browser adons) i have scaned my computer with Norton AV, adaware, spybot D&D, and housecall fixed all problems and then rescaned and came back clean

the OS i'm running is a new install but it is one that i have used B4 with no problems (first time went 1 1/2 years b4 i decided to reinstall) i'm running vista ultimate with SP1

Check the Event Viewer to see if anything is writing to the logs before it restarts.
Does it happen at random times or specifically when you do something - eg. putting a heavy load on the system (gaming, encoding, etc).

I'd suggest scanning with AVG Anti-Virus as well instead of Norton.

Why is Vista SP2 not installed? It has been out long enough and is stable enough and should be on the PC since it is required to have all the latest updates installed. Since you dont have it you dont have all the most recent updates installed and anything is possible due to that. You need to update your OS to include all the most recent updates.

ok so I ran avg and it came back clean... i won't be able to check the event viewer b4 it restarts but after the next one i will check it and tell you the most recent erors but under what should i be looking? i'm guessing the critical one normally the restarts hapen after being idle all night when i come to it in the mirning it runs for like 10 min then restarts... but it has hapend during gaming or even wile watching videos... as for why i'm on sp1 windows update dosent seem to have any new updates for me i have them all installed

a new problem to add to the list today it started freezing ish programs will lock up for like 5 min i can still minimise and maxumise but can't do anything but the system seems to be under only lite load
