Default Punkbuster keeps kicking me from BF2142

All this week punkbuster.exe has been crashing to the desktop randomly (encountered an error and needs to close), but it was infrequent enough it wasn't much of a bother, until recently. Now it's been kicking me in the middle of games constantly saying "Disallowed Program/Driver", and it's rare that I get to finish a game. This has me really annoyed.

Anyone else having this problem or know what might be causing it?

First- if you have reconfigured your in game key settings I suggest backing up your Controls.con (found in My Documents/Battlefield 2142)

1. Uninstall Battlefield through Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs
2. Check your firewall program (if you have one) and remove any access settings
3. Reboot then install Battlefield 2142 using your Disk or Via EA Link
4. Install Full Patch 1.25 downloaded via EA Link or battlefield website
5. Install Northern Strike
6. Install Full Patch 1.25 again
7. Start the game in single player mode to check if the installation installed OK
8. Your Firewall may stop you! Give full access to Battlefield and punkbuster EXE’s
9. Almost done lol
10. Exit the game and if you backed up any setting e.g. Controls.con now is the time to paste them back
11. Now try and join a multiplayer server

The game should now work OK, but if you get kicked by punkbuster try these two programs

pbvc.exe

pbsetup.exe

Please note:- that the above information is for Windows XP and is for guidance only, the above should not cause any harm to your system however, TBK cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage caused.

*sigh* you just described perfectly the installation steps took the first time, not a week and a half ago... and it's NOT my firewall, it's that POS software punkbuster. it sounds like it doesn't like my video drivers, and there's nothing I can do about that.

Back up to the driver set before the one you are using. A guy on my clan's forums was being kicked by PB because of his, so he went to the set before the one he was using and everything was fine.

I've always used the Forceware 101.09 drivers with my 8800 GTS 320MB card, and I've had no problems with them.
The Guru of 3D Download Section

I've used the 158.xx drivers, but they reduced performance.
