Port forwarding is where the data is sent, it does not necessarially make any difference to the speed in which the packets are sent.
Typically you would want to forward port 80 on a public domain to reach your webserver behind your router/firewall.

Only if you need it. What exactly are you trying to do?
(Should be in networking section)

Hello,

Not really. If a torrent only has 1 seeder. It does not matter how many ports you have forwarded. It will only download as fast as they can upload. The seeder count affects the download more than having your ports forwarded.

Cheers,
Mak

before I knew how to port forward, I would at max get 40-50 kbps downloads. it used to take me weeks to get movies. once I learned to forward my ports properly I started getting 600-700 kbps speed (movies in a few hours, sometimes in 20 minutes if there are enough seeders). so yes it does speed up your downloads

that's why everybody does it. of course it doesn't speed thing up if you are using one seeder, but it really does if you have a hundred or a thousand

what your router model number and your torrent client?

linksys wrt300 and by torrent client do you mean like mininova, isohunt, the piratebay or h33t. Host is either utorrent or bittorrent.

Hello,

I am not saying port forwarding does not help. I am just saying that it depends on the number of seeders as well. Port forwarding helps but having a high number of seeders will be even better.

PS. Check the Browser area. There is a topic about all of this stuff already. No need to continue this on here. Since it is already there.

Cheers,
mak
