Default PC won't boot!

Hi, my 3 ghz desktop got infected with virus. Even though i had norton av, the winXP sp2 does boot till welcome screen. But when i try to enter the password for user as well as admin...the os does show its loading the settings and at that very instance the os logs off! I even tried accessing system restore, but the os again logs off. How can disable the welcome screen? Or is there any other way i can access my os for backup? - eric

Check the Virus area. Norton is the worst AV out there. Try Osiris guide to get rid of the infection. You cant disable the welcome screen until you get to a desktop. The only other way to access the data would be thru a Live CD. This is why there are tools for backing up your stuff BEFORE this happens.
