Default One letter drive descriptions

hi there,
I've suddenly noticed that in "My Computer" all of the drive descriptions in the "details" view mode are only one letter long. As in where it should say "Local Disks" it just says "L" and where it should say "CD Drives" it just says "C" etc..
any ideas? i will try to include a screen shot.
this is in Win XP x64

thanx in advance.

Hello,

Open up Disk Management.
  • Start
  • Right click on My Computer
  • Manage
  • Left Side Disk Management

Are the descriptions listed there as well or no?

Cheers,
Mak

Hello,

From the looks of it none of the drives have a description on them that Windows recognizes anymore. Can you right click on them and rename them to give them a description yourself?

Cheers,
Mak

Hello,

If you switch views do they come back? Have you tried to rebuild your icon cache?

See if the TweakUI powertoy will work.

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP

Cheers,

switching views doesn't do anything and the tweakUI does not have an option for the drive "labels" (which is apparently their official term) and by the way this happens in all view modes that show the labels: thumbnails, tiles, icons, and details, just not list.
