Default Office 2007 Released to Manufacturers

Microsoft Corp. today announced the completion of the 2007 Microsoft Office system code and confirmed its release to manufacturing (RTM). This gold code milestone concludes the largest Microsoft Office beta program to date, with more than 3.5 million people downloading Beta 2. The unprecedented quantity of feedback from beta testers and customers helped the Office development team effectively validate product quality and optimize performance.

Microsoft Office RTM also marks a critical step toward worldwide business availability of the 2007 Office system, Windows Vista operating system and Exchange Server 2007 on Nov. 30, 2006. To underscore the significance of this new day for business, Microsoft executives will participate in events around the globe, including an event with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer in New York. General availability of the products will follow in early 2007.

Microsoft just announced the Release to Manufacturing of thier new Office 2007 productivity suite earlier today, and they are already preparing download pages for its free trial versions.

The pages adopts Office Online's new design, although they are sepereate web sites. Links point to a customized Windows Live ID sign-in page, though logging in is currently impossible, neither by using the given information nor an actual personal address. Interesting notes from the provided FAQ: It says that you will be able to upgrade to the full version as soon as it gets available to purchase, which may mean the trials will actually be available before it gets out to the public! We will also apparently be able to use the trial after it expires, but with a reduced feature set. Trial period will last 60 days after installation.

Trials to be available includes all Office 2007 editions, along with Accounting, OneNote, Groove, Publisher, Project and Visio.
