Notepad++ information.

Hi guys, I have been using notepad++ as my text editor alternative but right now it seems to not show the icon for the .txt .cfg or any other associated file...

does anybody knows which setting in the registry is the one in charge of that?

(if i setup notepad.exe as default editor the icons work without problem....)

Have you gone into the Options of Notepad++ and set it up for the default for all those file types? You have to do it within Notepad++.

I did it... right after i do it all the icons go to the generic ones...

after poking around i have found out that if I have the txt file open with notepad i can changes the icons to whatever i want but as soon as i put it to open with notepad++ the icon changes to generic and there is no way to change it (through folder options>file assoc...)

So basically i believe is a problem with notepad++ executable...

IT could be your icon cache needs to be rebuild. I dont get the same type of behavior exhibited on my system using Notepad++.

Mr google answers:

Just refresh the icon cache by deleting the IconCache.db file from your profile directory (usually /Documents and Settings/Username/Local Settings/Application Data). It will be automatically recreated.

^^ i didnt have the time to look at that moment

TweakUI powertoy can do it with a simple button press.

am going to give it a try because that didnt work and actually the iconcache.db is not being rebuilt...

any other suggestion? (thanks for your help)

The only other thing i could think of would be that the icon is not being saved to the profile correctly. Have you restarted after the install and adjusting of preferences to the Notepad++ information? Maybe that will work.

I tried TewakUI and also I tried reinstalling the application, also I tried downloading the binary files only and still the same problem. Until now is just that program... so it doesnt matter that much... I will soon reinstall windows anyway so I believe I will wait...

I usually try to fix the things so I can learn new things (for example the iconcache... i didnt know that existed...) but in this case I believe is just hopless... So we can close this topic.
