| Next Version Of Windows In 3 Years Next Version Of Windows In 3 Years
Microsoft says that its next version of Windows will be released in “roughly” 3 years. The next version of Windows is known internally as version "7." While the company provided few details, Windows 7, the next client version of the operating system, will be among the steps taken by Microsoft to establish a more predictable release schedule, according to sources. The company plans a more "iterative" process of information disclosure to business customers and partners, sources said. Next version of Windows: Call it 7 | CNET News.com |

Plus they have also announced they are getting away from the names and going to a number system. So Windows 7 is the correct terms to use now. | Re: Next Version Of Windows In 3 Years Actually it was Whistler for the codename of XP. Also you will notice that they do NOT release the name of the Windows Operating System until they have set a time frame for release. Considering that they have not even starting working on it...they did not give it a final name.
Also just click on the BetaNews link. The very first sentance says what i said. Quote: |
Microsoft has changed the code-name for the next version of Windows after Vista from "Blackcomb" to "Vienna," according to company evangelist and blogger Robert Scoble.
| So why would they call the final version Vienna when even a guy from M$ says that the code-name has changed? Yet again follow the stories that i posted. They tell the truth. The name WAS Blackcomb. They changed it to Vienna. Then they changed ti Windows 7 cause the name game was getting out of hand.
The reason they changed the code-name from Blackcomb to Vienna...is because it was the worst kept secret in M$ history. Everyone knew about Blackcomb and was talking about it even Before production began on Longhorn.

| Re: Next Version Of Windows In 3 Years Windows Seven now has an official ship target - 2010.
At Microsoft's Global Exchange (MGX) annual sales conference in Orlando this week, Microsoft shared a bit more - albeit at a high level - on Windows Seven, according to a copy of a slide deck I saw that was distributed to the field sales force during the conference. Among the information shared was that Microsoft is anticipating it will take at least three years from now to get the next version of Windows client out the door.
Last time anyone got Microsoft to talk dates about Windows Seven, the next big Windows client release, a Windows exec slipped up and said something about 2009.
Microsoft officials told MGX attendees that the company is currently internally planning Windows Seven. So far, the company has determined Windows Seven will come in both 32- and 64-bit flavors. No word on how many SKUs or any kind of guidance on features was provided, but Microsoft did say it would address both consumer and business segments with Windows Seven.
