Default Need Some Help, Trying to Rig my Computer for my dad..

Ok well my dad is probably the most hardworking guy I know. I mean seriously... its incredible.
Well My dad is wanting to buy stuff for his entertainment area (which is just next to my room.)

I have a question:
I want to be able to use my computer on his TV, so that I can setup movies, music etc. for him to watch on. I think you might know what I mean.

Should I:

Build a cheap computer with an external HDD, with Windows media Center (i have no idea what this does)

Or should I do something with my computer, and hook it up to his tv?

I'm not really knowledgeable in this, so I may be missing the obvious solution.

And finally.

What is the point of Windows Media Center?

*Note, I have vista ultimate

Windows Media Center - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Media Center is just what it sounds like. To be the Center of your Media Experience. You have it as part of Vista Ultimate. So really all you should have to do is hook up the TV to your video card.

To hook to the TV, either an S-Video or VGA cable. Which ever your TV has, as it's alternate input.

It could also be HDMI. It depends on the TV. If it is HD then you should look for DVI or HDMI.
