Ok, i have a simple question about Vista.

I have a 320GB hard drive and i plan on upgrading my computer, i will be getting a new motherboard but plan to keep the same hard drive. at this time. But my question is if i can somehow keep the windows vista operating system that i have from my HDD and use it with my new motherboard(Asus p6t deluxe v2).

Can i simply just plug in my hard drive to my mobo and use the operating system thats on my hard drive or do i have to buy a windows vista OS disk.

P.S. windows vista came already on my hard drive and was already installed when i first got this computer because it was a stock build.

No you won't be able to just plug in the drive to the new board and hope that it works, i'tll have a different hardware profile and give you a BSOD.

Check out that post, as that will be a way you can move your current system to new hardware.

If Vista came preinstalled, either recovery disks should have came with the PC, or there s hould be a utility on the PC (or recovery partition) to make your own disks. Do this, or find somebody that has the same version of Vista as you, and copy their disk (a friend, PC shop, etc), or find a download to one somewhere on the internet (can't discuss where, as we're not allowed to talk about such protocols here).

You can not keep the install of Vista at ALL. New Mother Board = New Machine.

It would be illegal to keep your Vista install, since it is OEM and can't be transferred. So you would have to buy a new copy of Vista or Win7 to install once you get the new motherboard.
