I am using MS Outlook 2002 and have started receiving the error message 'The Messaging Interface has returned an unknown error. If this persists, restart Outlook'.

This error occurs when I try to delete the messages that are sitting in the Sent box - they have been sent multiple times already but will not transfer to Sent.

I also have about 140 odd emails sitting out there waiting to be downloaded to the inbox which isn't happening.

I have tried running the detect and repair function but to no avail.
I have also deleted that backup .pst file as it was approaching 2gb.

I've restarted Outlook, restarted Window and still nothing is happening.

Is there another .pst file I need to delete other than the back up file that I manually run?

do you have all the service packs applied?

Yes. All SPs and updates from MS Office

delete the outlook profile and make a new one, usually that fixes most errors

Does that mean that I'll lose all the 140 new emails waiting to come in?

you have an exchange server running right? if you do, i dont think you will but im not going to say you wont. can you sign in to another pc and check them out then delete the profile?

We don't run an Exchange Server here but I might be able to get access through the mail server - thanks for the thought.
