Default Monitor or video card error?

Hello all. I am new to the site so bare with me as I will do be best to decscribe my problem here. A friend of mine had just gotten a new laptop and I was playing with it over his house and he showed me that you can project the picture on your monitor onto a bigger TV. So I went home to try to do the same. I had an extra DVI cord so I connected one end from the back of my MONITOR into the back of my Sony Bravia. The TV had a message saying no response from PC. I shut down my system and tried again, same problem. The third time I hit the Left most monitor button to switch imputs thinking that probably was what I needed to do. I did that and still no signal to the TV. I gave up and hit the left most button again to go back and just get back into Windows. As I went back into windows NVidia program came up guiding me through some stuff asking me what resoultion the Tv was and stuff so I did all that and crossed my fingers I would see the image on my TV but I was out of luck and still no response from TV. AFTER that I switched back the the regular imput only to see this Analog Input Self Test Feature Check with four boxes under it. I can not see anything besides this and when I flick back to the input I tried to get the Tv working on it says "Digital Input Cannot Display This Video Mode optium resoultion 1280x1024 60Hz" I think my video card is confused just as much as I am :4-dontkno. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

I am having this problem on a Dell E521 computer. I can get into Safe Mode but don't know what to change around to have my monitor show the screen again.

Default Re: Monitor or video card error?

Try reinstalling graphics drivers.

Also, you can't hook a cable from your monitor to your TV unless your monitor has an OUTPUT and not an INPUT. That's generally what is on the back of monitors for video connections: inputs. You essentially hooked an input (from the monitor) to an input (to the TV), so of course it can't display anything.
