Default Making Internet Connection Better?

Well besides switching ISPs, what can I do to my computer to ensure I get the fastest connection possible. For example. I have to Network Interface Cards (NIC) in my PC and one of them connects through a router and then my other is a cable connecting to my Xbox to enable Xbox Live. I was wondering are there any tips, such as closing certain programs, or disabling things, or whatever to make sure the fastest connection gets to my Xbox possible.

So you have the xbox going into the pc then the pc going to the router?

Well it would probably be faster if you connect them both via the router but i'm no expert on xboxs so perhaps you have to connect it via a pc.

I don't think there is much you can do to speed up the internet connection, possible get higher quality cables but no home internet connection is going to stress a 100mps ethernet connection.

So i think best thing to do would be see if you can connect xbox directly to router, otherwise i don't think there is much you can configure except the advanced options on the NICs.

Yes, I understand that. I have 100mbps cables but I wanted to know if the internet connection may distort or something going through my PC and then into my Xbox because of certain programs open or something.

This tweak is designed for broadband users on Windows XP Pro This tweak will only remove an internet reserve of 20%, although this is not active unless you are running QoS Aware programs.

1.Log on as "Administrator".

2. Run - gpedit.msc

3. Expand the "Local Computer Policy" branch

4. Then expand the "Administrative Templates" branch

5. Expand the "Network" branch

6. Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in left pane.

7. In the right window pane double-click the "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" setting

8. On the settings tab check the "Enabled" item

9. Change "Bandwidth limit %" to read 0

10. Then go to your Network connections Start=>Connect to=>Show All Connections and
right-click on your connection. Then under the General or the Networking tab,
(where it lists your protocols) make sure QoS packet scheduler is enabled.

Hi Warez, what is this "QoS Packet Scheduler" thing
and what does it do?

Think I'll try it out.

BTW, does it work for both wired and wirelessly connected pcs?

Thx!
