DriveImage costs money. But it works, free imaging programs are unreliable. Low compression and very slow.

I would recommend Knoppix Linux
it is a Linux distribution bootable from a CD, good for recovery work on a system that can't boot from its own OS

- although getting it to write to NTFS is tricky, but possible
