Just be careful when installing some freeware/shareware, some authors can only make their product free by installing spyware/adware when you accept the EULA. In turn we get more dumb posts in the software section and the virus section.

Absolutely! Unfortunately freeware could be Â“goodÂ” source of the infection, but basic security rules should keep your computer clean from most of them. IÂ’m always running antivir software on files before unpacking them. I have Â“spy trapÂ” enabled as wellÂ…

Take it from me nicol you don't want it. Even if you could get it free (which I doubt). Use AVG. It's free and causes less hassle.

Use Zone Alarm firewall. That too is free and good.

I second that about AVG. It is the best anti-virus software that I have ever used. This includes the ones that I have paid for. Also, I like sygate firewall better than zonealarm. The personal version of it is free. It has all kinds of good features that come with it. Backtrace is one. Sygate Firewall
