Have you installed the software? OR obtained the correct software for Win7 use?

On every other operating system I've used with the drive
XP 32bit
Vista 64 bit
Ubuntu (for a very short time)

The drive worked perfectly without having to manually install any software. But I did a google search for lightscribe software and installed some control panel software or something and it still does not get recognized.

Recommended Software for certain tasks

We have some Lightscribe software located in there. Have you tried any of those?

No, but that is a great list. I recognize a few of my favorites in there.

The drive is now connected... I don't know what I did but I was messing around in device manager trying to update drivers or anything to get the dvd drive to work. It is now working perfectly. errrrrrr..... lol wish I knew how I did that incase I have to do it next reformat.

It may have something to do with the drive association in the Device Manager. Are you 100% sure that the Device Manager saw it as a Lightscribe Drive before? Maybe by forcing the driver update via the Device Manager you got the drive to be recognized properly and thus Lightscribe to work?

Could be, it usually is seen as a LITE-ON DVDRW on xp and vista from what I remember (Once agian I never had to do anything... it just was installed), but it wasn't even IN device manager at first for windows 7, I could only see it in the bios.

But if I actually did anything to install it I must have forced the drivers to install or something, because thats what I was sort of trying to do since it is what I had to do to get my Linksys wireless PCI card to work.

In any case, it works
