Ok just did chkdsk /p /r and nothing it just keeps rebooting. If I click F8 I get the modes back but when I click them it won't go to Win it just reboots again. Can anybody help?

The only thing I can think of short of taking it to someone who can get the files off of it. Is to try to install Ubuntu 7 as a 2nd boot OS.

so what is the deal?
Listening to Geek Squad is like Listening to Steve jobs about Microsoft products. It is one of the worst things you can do. They are in it to make money. They tell you the mobo is bad so that they can slap you with a $400 or more bill.

Before anyone comes in screaming that "The Geek Squad isnt like that" Bull. I have been to 5 different ones with a simple problem and all 5 of them told me my mobo was bad when it was a bas BIOS flash.

It should be chkdsk /f /r not chkdsk /p /r )

So try that. you can get the files off yourself. Ubuntu has a LiveCD. Just pop that in, run it right from CD and put your files in a USB drive or burn them to a CD/DVD.

Ok I tried everything I know. Ubuntu 7.10 tries to install but just reboots. I guess it's time to send it to somebody that has more software then I to fix it or at least get the files and programs off of it. Any other ideas before I do the that?

Try using a newer version of Ubuntu. there should be at least 8.10 if not 9.04 out by now. Also make sure you are getting the LiveCD version. Not just the installer.

Just go to ubuntu.com and click the download button. There select the mirror to download from and get the ISO and burn it. The Desktop version should do just fine.
