Default Java Problem

Hi there! New to the forum and hope you'll be able to help.

I'm having trouble with Java....not sure what I did but now when I visit a page that requires it, it tells me I need the Java Runtime Environment.

This was all fine before but has now decided to stop working I'm sure I did something but not sure what.

When I check within 'Add/Remove Programs' 2 Java entries are there: 'Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_03' and 'Java (TM) 6 update 7'.

When I've been directed to the Java site to update/download what is required, it says 'We encountered an issue while trying to automatically install Java software onto your machine.' and I can't update...

Please help, I'm pulling my hair out!!

Thanks

Try uninstalling the versions in your Add/Remove, then re-download.

Thanks for the reply. I tried this initially but couldn't unistall either. However, I used a seperate Uninstaller and have unistalled both. The only problem is that it still won't allow me to download!!

Any other ideas?

Have you tried downloading with a different browser? Such as Firefox instead of IE or vice versa.
