Default iPod songs won't go away

A guy at work can't get the songs he deletes off his iPod to go away. he has erased them several times, but they keep popping back up when he/we are listening to it (he uses a speaker system here at work).

The dude is pretty computer savvy, so I am sure he has used most obvious means. So, what I'm looking for is a way to nix 'em and make sure they stay gone.

Suggestions?

Does he have his "recently played" or "recently added" or any of those playlists syncing to his iPod?

I had a similar issue and that was the cause. Nothing major, just a bunch of stuff I didn't want to listen to.

The songs are not on any of his playlists, nor either of those. These are songs he wants gone, like country and rap. He's a metalhead and can't stand 'em.

did he use the ipod updater? if that don't work, right click the drive in windows explorer and select format and uncheck the quick option
