| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today You do realize that IE8 DOES follow these web standards as much as Firefox does now right?
These standards are tested by what is called teh Acid test. As it stands right now for final versions of browser.
IE8 - passes teh Acid 2 test but fails the Acid 3 test.
Firefox3.0 - Fails both the Acid2 and Acid3 tests.
Opera 9.64 - passes Acid2 but fails Acid3.
Safari3 - passes Acid2 failes Acid3.
So actually IE is AHEAD of Firefox. Since the final version of their most recent browser passes compared to that of Firefox. Firefox 3.1 Beta 3 passes Acid2 but still failes Acid3. So even when they get the newest version of Firefox out. It will still only be on teh same level as IE. Opera and Safari on the other hand with the beta browser Opera 10 and Safari 4 pass both of the tests.
So while they are right about IE7 that it doesnt follow standards. They are wrong in a way as well cause the latest and most current version of IE does.

| Anyways, I think that article was written well before IE8 was even near to being released.
I feel that any version of IE will still be behind in terms of versatility and speed.
EDIT:
I just looked up ACID3 and my FF3 got a 71/100 LOL.
Anyways, what is this testing exactly? Just different types of content?

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today Acid Tests are setup by the W3C. They are teh group responsilbe for the Web Standards. They are not Official. Well they are and are not.
Meaning that the browsers in use do not have to follow them, nor do the site. There is no real standard set in place for the internet. The Acid Tests are the closest thing we have to a stardize testing unit for the browsers and web pages. But there is no rule out there that says that a site or browser has to follow these.
So while Opera 10 and Safari 4 pas both tests, you will see that they render many sites "incorrectly". I put that in quotes cause the truth is that is how the site is truely coded. But since the site itself is coded to differently and not set to pass teh W3C Standards or the Acid tests the sites looks incorrect in the browser.
So it is not that a browser is displaying a site "incorrectly" in fact it is displaying it as it should look according to the way teh browser itself works.
Opera uses Presto
Firefox and several others use Gecko
IE uses Trident
Chrome and Safari use WebKit.
There are the main ones. As while each browser displays a site in a different way it is actually displaying it according to the way the browser is coded to view the site. There are very few sites out there that can pass the W3C standards as well as be displayed the same in every browser.
IT is mainly about the content and coding of the site the way the tests are done.

Osiris and myself who know Windows very well have no issues with it. Jsut because your experience is not on par with ours doesnt make it a terrible browser. I can say the same exact thing about your precious Firefox. Doesnt make it true.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today 93/100 om ACID3 with FF 3.1b3.
I played around on IE8 last night. It worked OK, but was sluggish with new tabs. Click, wait two-three seconds, tab opens, wait five-ten seconds before it was functional. Of course, watching videos is a rough test for a browser. |

I call that an unsuccessful browser; basic, core functionality is not even close to being optimal for most. You can call it a bug of whatever you want, but if this many people are experiencing it, how can you deny that something is wrong?
Also, how can you allude to the fact that I am a firefox fanboy? I've given just as many complaints about firefox recently, this browser is quickly becomming a piece of trash ... which is why I am so upset over my issues with IE8 -- I wanted to switch.

| Some people will not give something objective, rational thought due to personal bias. |
