Essentially, for me and my roommate, tabs take on average of five seconds from when they are initiated before they become functional. Also the browser tends to take an obscene amount of time to actually start up, and a longer than average time to display the homepage after the bootup.
I really wanted more out of this browser, I was eager to replace firefox 3 due to frequent, but very minor instabilities I've witnessed lately; but this browser just feels like it weights 1000 lbs, even though it tends to use about 60% of the amount of memory that firefox uses.
I can only hope that IE9 finally gets everything right.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today To me, it's a minor issue, to you, it may be a major issue. IE8 or any other web browser is going to run differently on all machines. Some users will have no issues it, some will. Some users will have it launch fast like it is on my machine, some may take longer as you are experiencing. Tabs start up fine on my side, on your side you seem to have some lag. What's the exact cause? Who knows. All I know is that browsers will run differently on any machine. I have IE8 installed on a fresh system, meaning I just installed XP SP3 2 weeks ago. I'm happy with it, after a few updates I'm sure it will be corrected.
I just need to learn how to code with it so my website renders it properly. |

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today I only notice maybe 2 seconds before the tabs load up.
To me it is a minor thing. I am patient. I dont need instant response and dont expect it on my machine. I know it is old and starting to feel the wear of its age.
Even when i do my upgrade i will remember that things are not instant in the world of PC's. I like the browser and have used IE more since Ie8 Beta and now final than i have since i made the jump first to Firefox with version 0.7 and then to Opera with version 8.5. This is the longest i have used IE in many years and i am very happy with it. Much better than IE6 ever could be and much better than IE7.
Even those sites that are broken like Osiris's, there is the option for Compatibility View to have IE8 respond like Ie7 so that the site can be viewed like normal.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today Isn't IE8 supposed to have a new crash feature so it doesn't take down the entire browser? It got stuck rendering a page and then had to close it via TM. I remember in the beta when one tab crashed, the other tabs remained intact. |

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today Yes this still has that feature. I have actually had your site crash its tab a few times but reopened immediately.
If the page gets stuck rendering did you try to stop the browser from loading the page then try to reload it before you closed it via TM?
I am guessing you would have thought of that and that it got to that Not Responding point where nothing you do works. At that point if you just leave teh browser for about 30-60 seconds it should come back. Happened to me on a IPB Forum.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today My question is this though, it's not a sarcastic question -- I'm just curious. With these arguably minor or major flaws in the start up performance, tabs, compatibility, crashing, etc. and the presence of browsers that do not exhibit this behavior (and are arguably faster), why do you choose IE8?

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today Each person has their own preference. Some are used to the llok and feel of IE and refuse to change. Some people are scared to change to a new browser.
I have 5 browsers installed. I use them all at different points through out the day. I have my favorite but i test things out in each browser.
Being bundled with Windows gives IE a perk. People dont have to go thru the hassle of downloading, installing and configuring a new browser. It is convient to have the icon right there on their desktop when the load up the PC for the first time. These people dont want to go through the process of learning a new browser.
I have yet to see any browser be perfect. I can crash every single browser with little effort. I can find several web pages for each that they can not display properly. I can find several more which will not work in that browser at all.
There is no perfect browser. Safari was hacked in 10 seconds or so. IE can have flaws found daily. Firefox comes out with a updated version it seems almost monthly to patch its flaws. Opera get a update to fix one of its flaws roughly every 6 months or so. Chrome 1 is still using a junk kernel. Chrome 2 jsut picked up again with a new Beta.
So you can ask that question but the real question is why choose any browser when you look at all the facts. There is no perfect browser. There is only the one you are comfortable using.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today I personally think ie8 sucks **** I use the zoom feature in browsers alot and it works fine in firefox but in ie8 when I zoom to even 105% the pages tear and scrolling down the page takes for ever because of all the graphics tearing that is going on. Firefox and opera don't have this issue so I think I will stick with them.

| Re: Internet Explorer 8 Final Noon Today About FF vs IE ... Just after I posted my last post last week, I had a user call me over because she was trying to print a page to a PDF (for our records) and certain pages just cause her CPU to crash when she tries to print it to PDF. I looked up the error and found this: Printing crashes Internet Explorer 7 | fourwhitefeet Quote: |
Every web developer knows that Internet Explorer does not comply with published web standards.
| One advantage that IE does have over FF is that it has the .MHT format, but of course that doesn't work if you're trying to save dynamic content. |
