Installing XP, blank screen after "Setup is inspecting your hardware's configuration"

I just built this system from scratch and it seems to POST fine without errors. All the parts were known to be working prior this as well. I popped in the Windows XP CD, which I know works, and I choose to boot from CD, get the "Setup is inspecting your hardware's current configuration" message, goes to blank screen like it's going to proceed but never comes back up. I had it wait for 15min so it's no slow at responding or anything. What could be wrong?
