Yep!!Impressed..Still had to wait an age for the "press any key..." bit to go away, but Im back...Thanks guys..Muchly muchly helpful, and I'm both impressed and grateful in equal measures...

One question...What does Gparted do that Acronis pretends to yet doesnt???Seems very similar...Not that I'm doubting!

cheers again

Acronis is known for quick formats. Just like i said above. It is the same method used by Vista and Win7 during the install process.

It is like moving a virus to the recycle bin. While the file is not completely gone from the system it is still able to cause havoc.

This is what a quick format is like. If there was a problem before, a quick format just basically erases the information instead of trying to fix the problem. This is what GParted does. This is why i recommend GParted as the format measure. I know it does a full format and it does it effectively and efficiently. Something that we all can relate to.

If you are really paranoid you could use Boot and Nuke first and then format the disk. Nothing left at all.

There is a reason Mak is one of the great admins and mods this forum has, along with Trotter, they know what they are talking about and they are very intelligent ppl. In my eyes, it is the number 1 site on the net when it comes to help for PC's.
