Default installing vista problems

hiya..Im trying to re-install vista home prem (32bit) on a Toshiba Equim..All was going well,I can get through the first few screens, entering product key etc..then when it comes to the first re-boot, i get the original "press any key to boot from cd" screen..If I press any key the whole process repeats, yet if I leave it and touch nothing-which I think is what I'm supposed to do- nothing happens...it stays on the same screen..

What am I doing wrong???

(Apart from putting on Vista hehe)

Please help,I'm really stuck now!!!

Ta

When the "press any key" screen shows you need you need to not press any of the keys. It may take a little time. If nothing happens then you need to verify that your main harddrive is the primary boot device in the bios.

If you are using a USB keyboard you need to make sure that the BIOS option for activating/using USB on boot is selected. I have had to pulled out an old PS/2 keyboard just to access the BIOS to do this on several computers.

It should only bring up the press any key screen if the cd/rom is the 1st boot device in the bios, or if the cd/rom is the 1st bootable device the bios recognizes as it goes down the list of options. As in
1st - Floppy Disk Drive
2nd - CD/ROM
3rd - Hard Drive

Arrange the order so that your hard drive is the 1st in the list.

Alright kinda drawn out and requires you to try the install again. But get GParted.

Browse GParted Files on SourceForge.net

download the ISO and burn it with ImgBurn.

Burning ISO Images with ImgBurn - NeoSmart Technologies Wiki

Get it booted up and format the drive into NTFS with a right click and apply. Then try to reinstall Vista.

Acronis blows, Mak, as usual, is right on when he says to use gparted live to format all partitions then install the OS, one one of them. It takes less than 30 seconds to do.

Default Re: installing vista problems

The problem is that after installing the first part of the OS it does not install the boot information. which is why it just sits there.

So 1 of 2 things is wrong.

1. The format done was not a full format. It was a quick format which only deletes the data and it is causing problems.

2. The disk you are using is modified in some way that the boot information is not being installed properly.

There is nothing more we can say or do. You have taken all the appropriate steps to try and get it working. It maybe one of the things i listed which is most likely, or it could be something else like a driver problem. We dont know. We dont have the PC in front of us and we cant diagnose what is the source of the problem with only a few words.

So if you dont want to use GParted that is fine. I suggest it cause i know it works. It has for many people in the past. But without knowing what type of format you have done or what type of disk you are using we can't be of real help until we know.
