Default Icons not in place

Does anyone out there know how to lock desktop icons in place? Every time I
restart my computer my icons are all out of order. I have made sure that the
choices for Auto Arrange and Align to Grid are unchecked and checked at different times. OS is Vista.

thx

If those 2 items are unchecked that is why it is happening. They have to be checked to have them be lined up.

This is still happening. Is there some sort of software that will lock them into place? Right now I have align to grid checked off and auto arrange unchecked. I tried checking this off but it put all icons to the far left. Now I prefer to use some sort of software or the like.

Any ideas guys?

thx

Usually putting them where I want them, then uncheck and check Show Desktop Icons works for me on both XP x64 and Vista
