Default How do you install Windows XP Home?

Hello. I'm trying to figure out how to install Windows XP Home Edition to a blank 80 GB HDD.

In the boot bios I selected my DVD drive as top priority so it boots that first when I restart my PC with the Windows disc in it.

I made this windows xp home disc myself with Nero (burn bootable image).

It keeps taking me to a DOS screen starting with the word Caldera DR-DOS and ending with [DR-DOS]A:\> (enter text).

But I cannot type anything at that point. I can't even exit that screen... It just sits there.

I have a Gateway computer by the way.

You made it yourself? that's probably why it doesn't work.

What Nero version did you use, I'm guessing 6?

I extracted the files from the Windows XP Home.iso with PowerISO then burned them to a CD-R with Nero Express 6 > Data > Bootable Data Disc, added the files then burned...

I burned them to the disc as a floppy image. It says it's supposed to boot when Windows starts in DOS.

Funny thing is my disc only boots after I log on...

Please tell me what / how am I supposed to burn this CD iso so that it will boot at Windows startup into DOS like it's supposed to....

very wrong... lol

the iso is a disk image file and it is ready to burn as is (no need to extract it)

download clonecd (use the trial) http://www.slysoft.com/en/clonecd.html

and select "write from image file"

easy as that...

you were supposed to use the "burn as disc image" in nero option, not the the make boot cd option as the xp iso was already bootable
