Default help with my comp please!!!

i bought a computer last night got it home and installed a dell version of xp. now it says that its missing files and i need to reinstall it... the only problem is i never had a key for it... so my friend lent me a copy of xp pro... how do i delete the old os and install the new one... and can i use the key for his or do i need to find a key gen? and where would i find that?

Most of you post is illegal actions/questions.

But you delete the information by, deleting partition then reformating.

i dont know anything about comps so could you tell me how to do that... partion thing... like a step by step...

You would boot off the pro disc, select the partition , delete it, then reformat whole drive, then allow it to install.

my comp is a custom built so when it starts up it doesnt really do what regular comps do so what button would i need to press. cause i put the disc in the tray an restarted it and it just came up like normal it never asked to do any of that

Have to access CMOS, by pressing delete or F1 at first power on, then in the CMOS you change the boot priority to CD-Rom First and anything else 2nd, 3rd and 4th.


Then you have to save the settings, usally F10.

After restart it should prompt you to boot off CD after POST.
