Default HELP msgsrv32

I have Windows 98 OS on my computer and when it starts up I receive the Msgsrv32 message saying that the program has performed an illegal opertaion and will be shut down. The mouse still works but windows 98 will not open therefore I cannot get into any of my files. I tried starting it in safe mode in hopes that it would work but still nothing. I was just wondering if someone could help me in figuring out how to fix this problem. But I have some important files on there and am hoping that I will not have to format it. Thanks so much for anyone who can help!

When you get this error just hit ignore and move on to your windows. If you can not get into get back to me and if you can
update your sound card driver
