the reason was, when you mentioned eventually using the 'usb program' doing what it did, you seemed sort of confused on what was actually happening and why. sorry, I just figured I'd try to explain it so you understood it better. guess I failed. heh.
in short though "ya...the 'USB program' did it for you." which I guess you figured out already.
Now you should be asking what a VBR is and what does it have to do with 0x7C00 or me?
