| Having trouble finding an answer. Ok, ive done a lot of searching and can't seem to find the answer im looking for, this sites never done me wrong so I thought I would throw it out there. When Windows 7 RC came out I was able to boot it off a flashdrive because I dont have a DVD burner on this computer. I was able to download a free copy of Win 7 Premium x64bit from school, I tried booting that off a USB like I did with the RC and I cant get it to work. I remember something about an ISO file with the RC but I see nothing related to that in my Win 7 download. Currently I am using Vista x32/ x86 bit or what ever, that is the OS I formatted my USB drive on and Unzipped Win7 onto. My question is, by formatting a USB to NTFS, and unzipping a 64 bit OS onto the USB using a 32bit operating be the root of my problem because they changed something in Windows 7? I try booting off the USB drive and it fails to recognize anything, my computer is fully capable of booting off a USB, as ive done in the past. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| Re: Having trouble finding an answer. Have you set the BIOS to boot from USB?
Have you made the USB stick bootable? Though, you can always use UNetBootin ( UNetbootin - Homepage and Downloads), which will make your USB stick bootable and 'install' the ISO onto it. |

| Nope, 32-bit/64-bit won't have anything to do with the problem.

| Re: Having trouble finding an answer. Well sorry if I don't understand, you say you're not able to boot from your USB stick ("I try booting off the USB drive and it fails to recognize anything") but since obviously there's something I'm missing here I'll just leave it to someone else as you say. |

| Re: Having trouble finding an answer. "When Windows 7 RC came out I was able to boot it off a flashdrive because I dont have a DVD burner on this computer" <<<< Meaning, I did it previously and the RC was strictly downloadable only to my understanding, so I thought that just MAYBE they included something extra like a converter of some sort, that they left out in the DVD downloadable ZIP file that I am currently trying to install.
-"My question is, by formatting a USB to NTFS" on a x32 bit OS<<<<Making the USB flash drive bootable.
-"and unzipping a 64 bit OS onto the USB (which was formatted on a x32 bit OS)"<<<<Loading the OS onto the USB drive.
My question once again "My question is, by formatting a USB to NTFS, and unzipping a 64 bit OS onto the USB using a 32bit operating be the root of my problem because they changed something in Windows 7? " Sorry if you guys cant read this, my handwriting is pretty sloppy. |

| Re: Having trouble finding an answer. First if you cant be nice the topic will be closed. First rule is to be followed at all times.
Now by just formatting a USB Stick to NTFS does NOT, i repeat does NOT, make it bootable. That just makes it into a format that is used by Windows. That is all. You did not make it bootable and that is where your problem is.
all you did was load the OS onthe the USB Flash drive. You did not make a BOOTABLE OS install. Windows 7 digital download? Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool
Those topics have a bunch of stuff to help.
By formatting the USB to NTFS you made it so win7 could be placed on there as that is the File System in use. That would be like formatting a hard drive to install to. Just because you format a hard drive doesnt make that drive bootable. You are missing the key components to make it bootable. Just placing the files that you got onto the USB doesnt make it bootable either. As the Digital Downloads for the Student upgrades, were NOT bootable. They were executables that you ran to upgrade your system from Vista to Win7 and not made to boot from.

| Re: Having trouble finding an answer. I was going to apologize, and still will, sorry for being a dick cuz my brain farted too. But Mak, do NOT i repeat do NOT confuse me with the student upgrade dillema, I go to a school which offers FULL versions for fresh installs, not upgrades from vista. + it was free, not 30$ Wouldnt formatting the USB to a format used by windows make it bootable? since it must be NTFS to boot an OS from? and my bios is already configured to boot from USB? I found the Win 7 USB DVD thing a bit earlier and im using it now. |
