Question Games for Windows

I'm having issues with having games show up in the 'Games for Windows' menu in Vista. It recognizes and correctly categorizes some of my games, but most do not even show up.

I have to drag a shortcut into the window manually and it remains in the "Unspecified" category. I'm sure there is no possible way to make 'Games for Windows' recognize my games better. However, I was wondering if it is possible to edit the categories and correctly place all my games; I haven't been able to find the option.

It's getting kind of annoying, I'm a bit of a neat freak when it comes to my computer, and I enjoy using 'Games for Windows'. I'd hate to have to stop using it.

The thing is that depending on the game installed the behavior you exhibit might be normal. The reason i say this is because older games did not have the ability to install the shortcut to that area. Games that were made before the "Games for Windows" option became available will not put a shortcut there and force you to do what you are doing.

Games after may also exhibit this behavior as they might not be tagged as "Games for Windows" and have this option as well.

Your best option will be to check out what they have in regards to this information at the Games For Windows site.

http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-us/index.aspx

Maybe they have something in their forums which can help. I have not seen anyway to do what you are asking though.

I give up. Apparently the only way you can add/customize games that don't update in Games Explorer is to download a Vista Games Explorer editor, which is user-made.

It was such a pain in the ***, and it never worked.

What an ignorant design in Vista... Why don't they allow you to just manually edit games and categories.. why is that too much to ask for?

/sigh

Maybe I'll try later, but it's just an awful amount of trouble for something so seemingly simple.

Here is a thought, why not create a folder or set of folders of your own. Then you can put whatever icons you want and where you want and do what you want with them.

It isnt just in Vista either. It is also in Win7. It doesnt have to be used. You choose to use it.

I create a game folder that i place in my Quick Launch (Or part of my jump list in Win7) which has all of my games shortcuts along with several other things. I didnt like the Games for Windows so i found my own solution that words for me.
