Default Firefox downloading

I added an extension the other day that was supposed to help me grab FLV and flash media from web pages. After I installed it, somethign happened to FF and when I try tied to download anything it wont show up in the download manager or anything. Its on the desktop but I have noclue how fast its gogn or how far along the download is...

I uninstalled the plugin and restarted FF so the extension is gone, but the problem still remains.

Any ideas short of reinstalling?

Ive had a couple of problems with FF recently, one where my bookmarks button kept dissapearing and another where FF would randomly shut its self down, i cured both these problems by going into FF safemode(start bar>programmes> mozilla firefox> safe mode) then make it reset back to default and reset tool bars, then after that restart your machine and then see if that sorted it.
