Default file compression

I am computer ignorant (Most of the time).

I need help with a question about file compression.

I have a wba file that is too large to send via e-mail. (48K)
I have right clicked on it and compressed it using windows as well as compressed it using win-zip. When I look at the compressed file it seems to be the same size as it was prior to compression.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Jane

What you need to do is try winrar which I mostly use.
Welcome to Winrar

I guess what your saying is your trying to send windows blind skin over the email right ?
I don't see why it wouldn't go over your email, but I guess your email client program wants it in a zip file.
That might be the main problem for you.

Also, some files cannot be compressed any smaller than they currently are.

48K isn't that big a file, you should be able to send that fine. What email client are you using?

Agreed. 48k is really small. What message do you get when you try to send it.

Depending on the file type, it won't compress. Some files just can't be compressed. Try making a gmail account and sending it through there. I've sent files through my gmail account that are a few Megabytes in size (1 megabyte = 1,000 kb).

many avi files and mp3 files are already "encoded"...usually using their own compression algorithm to compress the data.

The typical uncompressed file formats for the files listed above are

raw file format -> compressed file format

mpeg -> avi, wma, etc
wav -> mp3
