Oo - I think I've managed to get it; I thought installing as small a DVD player as possible would make it less likely that it included things that needed admin powers, and a 2Mb one seems to have installed itself and be working despite a few error messages...

Yep, I seem to be able to - it gave me lots of error messages, but I've tried one DVD, and that seemed to play at least...

Oddly, I don't think my boss, or even anyone at w*rk, would actually care, particularly given that it's for train journeys when I wouldn't be doing anything anyway.

It's called Cliprex DS. It's bundled with lots of nasty spyware, but if it isn't stopped by the locked-down version of Windows, and I can't install/use Adaware, I think that's one thing I *could* get the tech people to do...
