Default Driver retrieval...

My friend has a computer that she wants formatted, and I'd willingly do it for her, but she has no driver disks. And she's using a Duron system, with onboard sound and video, and they're weird chipsets I haven't heard of before, and are next to impossible for finding drivers for... She's running Windows XP.

I wanted to know is there any program or method of copying the drivers that are installed for a device and saving them to an external media, so that I could reinstall them later, after reformatting?

Yes, in device manager you can select the device, view the driver details including where they are. Then you copy them to a CD to use later.

Can I piggyback your discussion as my position is similar?Does it mean that I dont need to find the serial number if I can just replace the drivers from the old hard drive? I am trying to get EASY CD CREATOR (ROXIO) to install on a new hard drive but have lost the CD case.
