| Documents on Start Menu Ok, i'm having a very frustrated time, so i'm really hoping someone can help me figure this out!! This is what caused my problem: I have Vista on my C: drive. I HAD a 30GB spare drive that i used for storage (G). I had the "Documents" link on the start menu, targeted into my G: drive. I just got a 640GB that i installed, and switched all the files from my 30GB to my 640GB. Without thinking, i then formatted the 30GB, knowing that all my files were now safe on the new drive. But then, the "Documents" link on the start menu, wouldn't work. I thought i could just right click, and change the location to my new drive, but when i would right click and go to properties, the only tab is "general" and the page is completely empty! So then, for a temporary fix, i just decided to remove the "Documents" link, and just rename the "Pictures" link to "Documents", and target it toward the new drive. This worked. Then i enabled the "Documents" link, and i could then change the location of it, but it also changes the location of the "Pictures" link (which WAS named Documents, but i renamed it back to "Pictures to tell them apart). When i change the location of either, they point back to the other folder! So my problem now, is that the "Documents" link and the "Pictures" link on my start menu, have merged, and seem to think their the same thing. So i'm thouroughly confused (and i'm sure most of you will be to after reading this!), so i'm hoping someone will be able to help me straighten this out. I thought about just creating a new user account, which i know would make it work, but that would be a waste of space! Someone please help! Thanks in advance! |

| Re: Documents on Start Menu Ok, since no one has suggested anything on this, i'm going to explain it a bit better (try to at least). What i'm trying to do, is to change the location of the "Documents" link on the start menu in Vista Home Premium. The "Pictures" link, and the "Documents" link have somehow merged to one location. If i change the location of either, it changes the other one too. Also, if i rename one, it renames the other the same thing. The only way i can tell which is which, is by hovering over the link. The "Documents" link says "Store letters, reports, notes, and other kinds of documents" when i hover. The "Pictures" link says "Store pictures and other graphics files" when i hover on it. But windows is thinking their the same thing. The reason i believe it's doing this, is that the previous location for the "Documents" link got deleted, and when i right clicked on it to change it to the new location, only the "General" tab appeared, and it was blank. So i renamed the "Pictures" link to "Documents", because i use the documents link alot more than the pictures link. I told the start menu to "Hide the Documents link". When i decided to try to fix this problem, and unchecked "Hide the Documents link" it merged with "Pictures" link, and thus my NEW problem arrises. I could just hide the pictures link, and just use the documents one, but i'd like to have both work functionally. If you have any questions, or need more info, let me know! This is really annoying and i'd really like to get it fixed!
Thank You! |

| Re: Documents on Start Menu OMG I fricken love you!! I had to modify the registry entry for the documents folder to point to documents (it was on pictures), and it worked! I'm not sure why it changed both of them when i did it from the start menu, but the problem is gone, and everything's back to normal!! Thank you so much!
