Default directx related driver issue

Ok, i bought a new motherboard, and i neglected to completely clean the old drivers before swapping it out.
(yeah yaeh i know rookie mistake, im just lazy, and im a hardware guy, software annoys me)

anyway, everything is 100% perfect except for directx programs

opengl works fine, no issues

directx shows a black screen.

on a fresh installation everything is fine with directx, so i know it must be a driver issue of some sort

any suggestions on how i can fix this without using the fresh install? (i dont feel like re-mapping all of my shortcuts and files)

thanks in advance

(edit.. windows xp, direct x 9 (newest webupdate version), asus a8v-x, geforce 7600gs, (upgraded FROM asrock k8upgrade-nf3)

DXdiag--- all the little "test directdraw, and direct3d test" works fine, i see the spinning cube, and the little black lines

Best bet. Try to get teh DirectX Runtimes or SDK. Google for them. Try isntalling them see if it fixes it. IF it doesnt then there is no fix aside from a reinstall.

well unfortunately when i tried to repair the installation, i couldnt (dos only recognizes the disk as 168g, and i didnt want to screw around with it, it has all my games on it)

it wouldnt boot after this..... (i pressed f3 to exit, never did anything to the disk with windows setup)

but i had to go through about 4 hours of messing around just to get my first 80gig to work, .... ugh...

so now i have to figure out what a DDO is, and how i fix it..

i know the 320gig still has the info on it, but windows only sees 127g of 127 free....

this is weird to say the least, when i right click it, it says "168g used, 127free" ..

and i cant access the disk=P

i need to figure it out...
or i'll have to re-download 40 gigs of games from steam...

Okay first why would you need DOS to repair Windows??? There is a repair feature on the XP CD and it doesnt use DOS. DOS was elminated from Windows with ME.

I have no idea what you have done or how to even start to help you with this. Unless you have a XP Disk with SP1 there is no reason why it wouldnt see the whole drive. By now you should have at least created a XP Disk with SP2 using nlite for the off chance you ever had to reinstall.

Sorry mate. Looks like you stuck downloading 40GB of stuff from Steam.

windows xp installation loads a form of dos to do its installation...

and during this it only recognizes 168g

i know there is a way to get the info i need off of the drive without wiping it,
and someone out there knows how, i'll wait and look around more forums for someone that knows a bit more about DDOs
DDOs are a dynamic drive overlay,

in cases that the bios doesnt recognize the full size of the disk (320g in this case)
its a driver support feature that enables it to work with its full size (its limited to 137g in windows pre sp1)

i DID install xp sp2 though, and still it only sees 127g,

.... i have 1000s of priceless files on that disk that i cant replace,
including my own music that i produced,
i cant lose it, i'll pay 500 bucks for some idiot with a disk copy machine to back it up before i risk losing this information.

.....grr

Okay first i know of the hard drive limit. The DOS part is not DOS. It is just a simple GUI using 16 Bit technology to install Windows. The very first interface you see looks a lot like DOS but is not. They left it super simple that way so that it could load in teh 8MB partition that is created by the Windows install from factory.

To get the files off you need a BartPE CD or a linux LiveCD. There is no other way with how bad you got the system now.
