Default Customizing the task tray

I know how to selectively hide and show icons that are in the task tray. But does anyone know a way to change the order in which the icons appear? I have an icon that I want to be right next to the clock, and I didn't know if it is possible to move it. Is there a place in the registry that I can edit?

BTW, I'm running Vista Home Premium.

PC Answers - Tutorials - The Registry and the Taskbar and System Tray

Maybe that will be of help? I personally have never seen anything like this. But it seems that article has some good info.

Thanks. I actually just found that article and looked through it. It had a lot of great info, but not what I'm looking for.

There's a program called PS Tray Factory that can do it, but it's not really important enough for me to spend $25 to get it done.

Well if you google search for PS Tray Factory the 5th or 6th entry might be of interest.

Just found Active Tray as well. Captain Tray,

Auto Window Manager v.1.2 Download - Resize programs automatically, transparent windows, minimize to tray, stay on top.

Maybe that? It is free.

Tray Commander Lite v.1.2 Download - Multifunctional utility for quick and easy control of computer from tray.

That is also free.

Those apps look pretty useful, but they don't do what I'm looking for. So far, PS Tray Factory seems to be the only one that has even considered that idea. There are a lot of apps that let you launch programs from the tray.

Oh, well. It's really not that important. I was just hoping there might be some place in the registry to change the order or something. I searched the registry and didn't find anything relevant.

Thanks. If you ever hear of anything like this, let me know.

Thank you, Mak. Now that's an awesome program! That's exactly what I was looking for, and it also includes extra useful functionality. I like how I can also move around tabs on the taskbar and close them with my middle mouse button. It's just like managing the tabs in Firefox.

The only problem is that I'm finding out that it is impossible to move a program's icon to the right of the network and volume icons in the tray. That's ok, though. I ended up just removing those from the tray since I don't really use them much anyway.

Thanks again.
