Has your system had a prior dial up networking connection on it?

If not, you may need to install the networking components for Windows.

To see what netwroking components you have installed, go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows components

Locate Networking in the list and click details.

Ensure the networking items you require are installed.

This may or may not resolve the issue, but a good place to start.

is a modem listed in DM? if u goto DM does it come up and want to setup a connection? If so, your modem is not being recognized either due to corrupt drivers OR needs reseating.
