Default Computer unresponsive lately

My computer hasn't been as fast as it usually is or should be given its hardware lately.
I have a core 2 duo 2.33 and 3 gigs ram and the computers been super fast and great but lately it just seems to take much longer than usual to do ordinary things. On startup its running about 40 processes which is no more than usual and I've ran Malware bytes scan and also my antivirus scan and nothing comes up infecting the computer I just can't figure this out. It's not my internet either its the computer itsself. When I play a fullscreen game, I used to be able to minimize the game and then re-maximize it at will and it was almost instant. Now if I minimize and re-maximize, the game wont appear for a full 10 - 15 seconds. Any suggestions?

When did you last defragment your hard drive(s)?

Also, give Spybot Search & Destroy a try.

And run CCleaner (link in my sig).

Sounds like quite a lot actually, are you sure there aren't any you can disable and only start when you need them?

While checking the processes, make sure to add threads to the list. Check to see what is using the most threads because that is what the CPU runs on. Just out of curiosity, what anti-virus are you using? some of them are very intensive in resources, such as Norton...

40 Processes is not a lot. I have over 70 running at any given time, even after a restart. Do NOT think that because you have 40 or more processes that it is high. Each person/system/setup is unique and your amount of processes will not match what others say.

Having 40 Processes running will NOT slow down your PC. I can run almsot 90 Processes and still be as responsive as a fresh install. Teh amount of Processes running have NO bearing on it what so ever. Get that illusion out of your head cause it is totally false.

The only, and i do mean ONLY, way that it would even be remotely true is if you have a old Pentium 3 or Pentium 4 CPU with 64MB-256MB of RAM running XP. Only at that time would you be taxing your system that extra processes would make that much of a difference.

Seeing as that isnt the case, the amount of processes doesn't matter as much as what those processes are.

Spyware Asylum

Run through that. Check your running process with SystemInternal Programs:

Autoruns for Windows
Process Explorer
Process Monitor

Anyone of those tolls will give you indepth information about the processes running and what program(s) they are tied to. That will be the ultimate resource for you since you know what is installed and what is running so you can tie the process to the program. If it is something you dont know, then ask about it.

I defrag every so often it's prolly been about a month. I'll do that as well.

AntiVir is my antivirus, but I'm pretty sure its not that program itsself slowing me down because I've been using it for some time now and it's never been a problem before.

if you have installed something lately then that could be the reason.. Why don't you try system restore? delete temporary files and cookies..

START > RUN > type: %TEMP% and hit enter
Delete everything you find in the TEMP folder.
