I bought a new hard drive, a Maxtor 80 gb. I installed it but it wont detect it. I made sure I installed it correctly. I need some help on getting it working.

If you can't see it in windows disk manager you will have to use a 3rd party tool to detect and format the drive.

New drives come in 'raw' format - a format windows doesn't recognize.

To elaborate on Lex's reply...to get to the Disk manager: Start > right click My Computer (for XP, or Computer for Vista) > go to 'Manage...' > click on 'Disk management' on the left side > find the disk on the right side. Will be unformatted... right click it and choose to format it, then create a partition.

Just curious you installed it but does it show up int he bios as a device?
