Default Computer begins to freeze with large install files

Hey everyone. There's a problem with the computer starting to freeze up or lag really bad whenever large installation files are accessed (Any file > 100 mb or so). All the smaller programs are perfectly fine, but large ones cause the computer (Running on Windows XP) to start freezing. Eventually, the blue screen of deaths pops up, and a restart is required.

Does anyone know what the problem might be, and how abouts could it be fixed? Tried scanning with antivirus/spyware scanners already. Would a hijackthis log help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Post a Hijack Log. Also is your system formatted to FAT32 or NTFS?

How much RAM do you have, what type of processor?

This info will be of help also. Open Task Manager and see how many processes you have running and how much space you have left to run apps. From there go Start>Run>MSCONFIG>Startup Tab and uncheck the applications that you dont need to have running on startup. That will also help free up some space.
