If you have admin rights I would set up a user account on the local machine with a known pass or no password at all. Make sure and give the account admin rights.

Log off to test the account. at the ctl alt del screen click the more options tab and change it from a domain login to a local machine login. see if you can get in with the new account.

You can either continue to log in with this account to the local machine or you can remove the computer from the domain and add it to a workgroup instead.

Be careful and make sure you can access the computer locally before you remove it from the domain as when you do this you will loose the user account that is set up now.

Since they came from a school there is no way you are going to be able to login to them. You will not have the Network Admin Rights.

You will have to format the PC's and install a OS.

You can login to a computer with a domain user/pass when not connected to the DC. Of course you will not have Network Admin rights but if you have local computer admin rights you are good to go.

They way to check is just create a new local computer user. If you can create it and assign admin rights then you are a admin. You can also check in users if the account you use has admin rights as well.

With this said a fresh install would be nice. I am a bit surprized that they sold the computer without wiping the hard drive first. If it has a sticker with the key you would be good to go for a reinstall. Just need to borrow a copy of the correct OS.
