Question clean un-install of software I don't need (anymore)?

Hi,

I have my new i7 build that I primarily want to use for music recording as a digital audio worksation (DAW) and also for some gaming.
Basically I want to keep the PC clean of any software that I don't need.

So my quesiton is: when I un-install a certain piece of software, how can I make sure it does not leave and entries in the registry? How do I uninstall totally clean with not traces lest, no entries left in the registry?
Is there some utility for it? Is it possible to do that at all without formating the HDD?

BTW, my OS is Windows XP professional 32.

Thanks in advance!

Lars

Ccleaner is a great, free program to clean your registry.

Thanks !

But am I correct that when I uninstall a program, it still leaves entries in the registry?

Yes, but to think that a few small registry additions from these programs is going to slow your computer down at all is a bit much. Unless you bought the computer from a manf. that has TONS of bloat ware or you've had the computer for a long time and have installed and uninstalled a lot of applications I personally do not believe that cleaning out the registry is going to help you much.

OK, thank you !

So, do you think, if I just uninstall the software I don't want/need, it will be fine? And maybe do a registry cleanup every once in a year or so (as opposed to upon every single software that's been uninstalled)? Would that be a good idea?

Yes, I mean you can run it more than once a year, and i believe Ccleaner will clean more than just your registry. I'm just saying if you only have one application you uninstalled and you're worried about that registry addition slowing your computer down you are being a bit worrysome.

I would just run it maybe once a month.

RevoUninstaller can try to take registry entries associated with the program out as well, during uninstall.

CCleaner is a good app to use to clean out the registry after you use the program's normal uninstall method.

This is what i use. Has never failed me yet. Cleans out more stuff than running CCleaner after you uninstall a program.
