Default Chkdsk /f issue in XP Pro

Windows XP Pro recently crashed during a fairly high overclock stability test, and has become corrupted somewhere. Most things work without problem, but when I try to defrag, I get a little window saying I have to run ‘chkdsk /f’ first.

No problem, but when I try to run chkdsk /f, I get a warning saying the disk is in use by another process, (I would guess it is referring to Windows), and would I like to run chkdsk /f at next reboot. To which I answer yes, but it never runs at next reboot.

If anyone has had this problem, or knows how to remedy it, please let me know.

One bump, just to see if the right person missed it.

You may try one of those 2 ways :
First , try to run ur XP in safe mode then run chkdsk. OR ...do it the manual way..i.e: turn ur pc on.>>>....press (F8) >>> choose ( run in command mode only ) >>>> run chkdsk
hope this helps
